Summary:

Following the terrorism attack on September 11, 2001 container security issues were aroused. The U.S. government proposed and implemented a lot of measures, such as C-TPAT, CSI, and etc. There was potential inefficiency in the container supply chain with improper and inefficient inspection resulting in a bottleneck at the inspection center. Researchers will apply both optimization and simulation approaches to solve berth allocation with inspection problems and estimate the proper service rate by different berthing heuristics theoretically and numerically.
