Improving Planning under Uncertainty at U.S. Navy Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Jacksonville – FL05-FISC

This project analyzes the Material Requirements Planning System (MRP) of a process and develops mathematical-model-based policies to more effectively manage material supply processes

Sponsor:

US Navy, FISC

Research Team:

Joseph Geunes, Angela Sylvester, Chase E. Rainwater

Universities Involved:

University of Florida

Start Date:

08/31/04

End Date:

08/31/05

Summary:

The project analyzes the current MRP System’s ordering and replacement policies for FISC, determines effects of inflating component lead time or forecast to establish safety stock levels, and determine effects of using a moving-average to calculate replacement factorsreplacement factor policies
The purpose of this project is to develop mathematical-model-based policies that will allow FISC to more effectively manage its material supply process. In particular, the project will focus on developing a solid understanding of the sources uncertainty and variability in material requirements, and on providing effective mechanisms for managing requirements variability while providing desired material availability at minimum cost. This project will also propose effective measures for planning using the FISC MRP/MRP II system.
