Summary:

This projects determines under what scenarios the companies of Sonora would benefit with a regular container service in the Port of Guaymas started a regular container service, extrapolates the potential demand that companies in Sonora might have of the Port of Guaymas, and uses the study as a marketing tool for the Guaymas Port and the region.
Guaymas is one of the main Mexican ports in the Pacific, located 300 miles south of AZ. It currently handles bulk loads but doesn’t have a container terminal. Since the region has a strong manufacturing presence, the gov’t has unsuccessfully tried to promote the service in the past. This new effort in coordination with the Port Authority and industry will analyze, from the customers’ perspective, the benefits of having a container terminal.
Transport variability is a determinant component of total landed costs.
During research, it was found that very little to none of the consulted sources (companies, ports authorities, freight forwarders) have variability records for the segment under evaluation. More results in power point.
